A Woman in Topkapı Palace
Description: I worked with oil paint and sculpture dough. The face is completely plaster carving.
I made the frame myself by combining the wooden laths.
Carpentry, plaster carving, body and dresses are a production work that I think I own.
I colored it all with oil paint.
Story: Clothes, fireplaces, etc. made from the harem section of Topkapı Palace, made from original samples.
The material on the left side of the woman is a hookah. The water in the lower part boils and vaporizes the tobacco tablets in the upper part, and it acts as a cigarette with a mouthpiece by being sucked into its pipe. It is also used today.
The whole of the original fireplace is Iznik tile with unique pattern. All the tiles of the harem and Topkapi Palace are Iznik tiles and are extremely valuable. I think you've heard of Iznik tiles.
They are known worldwide.
Harem in Topkapi Palace is a place where only the women of the palace and slaves stay.. Only the sultan could enter this section with very rare wall decorations. Harem women underwent rigorous training. The Sultan chose his wives among them.
The wall tiles are worth seeing. The harem, which occasionally closes for maintenance, is a must-see. While I'm visiting, I walk around thinking of those women and I'm very impressed.
